How a Job Runs
Here is what happens from your first call to the last piece of trim.
- 1
The phone call
You tell us the rooms, the floor you want and what's down now. We tell you what we'll need to look at and whether the city might need to inspect anything.
- 2
Measure and check underneath
We measure, test the slab for moisture and check for flatness. On older floors we look for anything that needs testing before it gets pulled up.
- 3
Written estimate
You get a line-item estimate covering material, prep, tear-out, trim and any inspection fees. If the old floor hides a problem, we show you photos before any added work.
- 4
Install day
We cover what needs covering, set up the cutting outside when we can, and follow the maker's install instructions. Toilets get pulled and reset with a new wax ring on bathroom jobs.
- 5
Walk-through and cleanup
We walk the floor with you, check transitions for trip edges and clean up before we leave.

Flooring We Install
We put in hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl plank, luxury vinyl tile, laminate flooring and tile flooring. We also handle carpet installation, carpet tile, vinyl composition tile and stair flooring. Each product has its own install rules, from expansion gaps on floating floors to thinset coverage under tile. Pick a service below to see how we handle that floor and what moves its price.

Hardwood Flooring
Solid and engineered hardwood installed with moisture testing, the right underlayment and clean transitions, so the floor stays flat and quiet.

Luxury Vinyl Plank
Waterproof vinyl plank laid over a slab we have moisture tested and flattened, so the click joints hold and the floor stays quiet.

Tile Flooring
Porcelain, ceramic and stone floors set over a checked, flattened slab, with crack isolation and movement joints where the floor needs them.

Laminate Flooring
Laminate laid the way the manufacturer's instructions spell out, with a moisture check, a flat subfloor, proper gaps and clean transitions.

Carpet Installation
New carpet and pad laid over a checked, clean floor, power-stretched so it stays flat, with seams and doorways planned before we cut.

Carpet Tile
Modular carpet squares for busy rooms, laid over a checked slab with the right adhesive, so one stained tile can be swapped out instead of the whole floor.

Luxury Vinyl Tile
Stone-look luxury vinyl tile installed over a tested, leveled slab, with trims, transitions and toilets reset properly.

Vinyl Composition Tile
Tough, low-cost VCT for utility spaces, laid on a prepped slab, with old tile checked for asbestos before anyone pulls it up.

Stair Flooring
New treads, risers and nosings in wood, vinyl, laminate or carpet, with every step measured so the stairs stay even and safe to use.
Why Homeowners Call Us
Most bad floors fail for boring reasons. Someone skipped a step the manufacturer or the code asked for. We don't skip them.
25+ years in business
We have been in business 25+ years. That is a lot of slabs, stairs and subfloors. We know what tends to go wrong and we check for it before we start.
Coverage on every job
We are insured. Ask about it on the call and we will answer straight.
We stand behind the install
Every job comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. If something we did comes loose or lifts, we come back and fix it.
Plain answers on code
Most floor swaps in your home don't need a permit. Some jobs do, like structural subfloor repair or work that changes a stair. We tell you which one yours is before you sign anything, and we handle the paperwork and inspection when it's needed.
Stairs built to the rule
Adding a thicker tread can throw off the step heights. Code limits how much risers can vary, so we measure every step and plan the build-up so the top and bottom steps don't end up taller than the rest.

About Flooring Stafford
We are a local flooring company that installs floors in your home and nothing fancier than that. We measure, we prep, we install, we clean up. Our crews talk like regular people and answer your questions on site.
A lot of people worry about getting sold more floor than they need. We'd rather tell you the cheaper fix when it works. If your subfloor is fine, we say so. If it isn't, we show you why.
We also think code and manufacturer rules should be explained, not hidden. When something has to be done a certain way, we tell you the reason in plain words.

What Moves the Price
No two floors cost the same, even in the same size room. The material is only part of it. What sits under the old floor often matters more.
We look at the room, check the slab or subfloor, and then write up an estimate with each item listed. You can get your quote by phone once we know what we're working with.
- Square footage and layout
- More floor means more material and labor. Closets, angled walls and lots of doorways add cuts and time.
- The floor you choose
- Hardwood, tile, luxury vinyl, laminate and carpet each cost differently to buy and to install. Tile takes the most labor per square foot because of setting and grout.
- Tear-out and disposal
- Pulling up glued-down floors or old tile takes longer than lifting carpet. Haul-away is part of the job and shows up on the estimate.
- Slab and subfloor condition
- Many homes here sit on concrete slabs. High spots need grinding, low spots need leveling compound, and a damp slab needs a moisture barrier. Manufacturers require a flat, dry base for their own warranty to hold.
- Stairs and transitions
- Stairs are priced by the step. Thresholds, reducers and nosings where two floors meet add a bit more.
- Inspection fees when they apply
- If your job needs a permit, the fee and inspection time go on the estimate as their own lines.
Questions We Hear Most
Do I need a permit for new flooring?
Usually not. Swapping one floor for another in your home is often treated as a finish change. Paperwork can come into play when we repair or replace subfloor framing, change stairs, or touch plumbing beyond resetting a toilet. We tell you which case you're in before work starts.
Can you put new flooring over my old floor?
Sometimes. Floating floors can go over a flat, solid floor in many cases. Carpet, cushioned vinyl and loose tile have to come out first. We check what you have and tell you what the manufacturer allows.
My home is on a slab. Does that matter?
Yes. Concrete holds moisture, and our humid weather doesn't help. We test the slab before installing. If it reads high, we add the barrier the manufacturer calls for so the floor doesn't cup or the glue doesn't fail.
What if my old floor has asbestos in it?
Older vinyl tile and the black glue under it can contain asbestos. If we see a floor that might, we stop and recommend testing before anything is pulled up or sanded. We don't guess on that one.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Every installation we do is covered for a year on our workmanship. The flooring maker's product warranty is separate, and it depends on the floor being installed to their instructions, which is how we do it.
How long will my home be torn up?
Most rooms of luxury vinyl or laminate go in within a day or two. Tile takes longer because thinset and grout need to cure. We give you a day-by-day plan with the estimate so you know which rooms are off-limits and when.
Can you match my stairs to my new floor?
Yes. Our stair flooring work covers treads, risers and nosings in hardwood, vinyl, laminate or carpet. We measure each step so the heights stay even once the new material is on.
