Carpet Installation in Stafford
We pull out the old carpet and pad, check the floor underneath, and lay new carpet that is stretched tight and seamed where you will not see it. Bedrooms, game rooms, whole floors. You get a soft, quiet floor that stays flat.
What Good Carpet Installation Looks Like
Carpet is still the softest, quietest floor you can put in a bedroom or a family room. It is also the floor that shows a bad install the fastest. Ripples, loose corners and seams you can see from the doorway almost always come from how it was put down, not from the carpet itself.
Our job is the part you never see. We take up the old carpet, pad and staples, check the slab or wood subfloor, set fresh tack strip, lay a pad that matches the carpet, and power-stretch every room. Most carpet replacement in your home does not need a city permit. If your job does involve work that needs one, like repairing a damaged subfloor or changing a stair, we tell you before we start and we handle it.
Carpet is not the right call everywhere. For a laundry room, bathroom or a spot that gets wet, we will point you to tile flooring or luxury vinyl plank instead.
What Your Carpet Job Includes
Tear-out and haul-away
We remove the old carpet, pad, staples and worn tack strip. It leaves with us, so it does not sit in your garage or at the curb.
Floor check and prep
On a concrete slab we look for cracks, high spots and moisture before anything goes down. With the humid air here, a damp slab under new pad can turn into odor and mildew. On wood subfloors we find squeaks and loose spots and screw them down.
New tack strip and pad
Tack strip goes in a set distance from the wall so the carpet edge tucks clean. We match pad thickness and density to the carpet you picked, because the wrong pad can wear out the backing early.
Power stretching
We use a power stretcher, not just a knee kicker, on every room. That is what keeps carpet from rippling a year later.
Seam layout and doorways
We plan seams away from doorways and main walking paths. At each doorway we set a low, secure transition so nobody catches a toe, and we check that doors still swing clear.

Signs It Is Time for New Carpet
- Ripples that come back
- If the carpet has been re-stretched and still buckles, the backing or pad is likely shot. Ripples are also a trip hazard.
- Pad that crumbles
- Pull back a corner in a closet. If the pad is flat, hard or breaking into dust, it is no longer doing its job.
- Worn paths
- Matted lanes down halls and in front of the couch do not fluff back up with cleaning. The fibers are crushed for good.
- Smells and stains that return
- Pet accidents and spills soak into the pad. If an odor comes back after every cleaning, the pad underneath needs to go too.
- Seams pulling apart
- A seam you can see or feel, or one with fraying edges, will only get wider with foot traffic.
How a Carpet Job Runs
- 1
Measure and walk the rooms
We measure every room and closet, look at the floor at the edges, and talk about where seams will land. Then we give you a quote that lists carpet, pad, prep and removal.
- 2
Before install day
We let you know what we will move and what you should clear out, like breakables, closet floors and anything under beds. Electronics are best unplugged ahead of time.
- 3
Tear-out and prep
Old carpet and pad come up first. We clean the floor, fix what we find, and set new tack strip. If we find a problem bigger than expected, we show you and talk it through before going further.
- 4
Install and stretch
Pad goes down, then carpet is cut, seamed and power-stretched room by room. Edges are tucked and trimmed at the walls and transitions are set at each doorway.
- 5
Cleanup and walk-through
We vacuum, haul away the scraps and walk the rooms with you. If a door drags on the new carpet, we point it out so it can be trimmed.
What Moves the Price of Carpet
Carpet pricing comes down to how much floor there is and what it takes to get it right. The carpet you choose matters, but so does what is under the old carpet. We list each part in your quote so you can see where the money goes.
- Square footage and layout
- Big open rooms go quickly. Lots of small rooms, closets and angled walls mean more cuts, more seams and more waste.
- Carpet and pad choice
- Fiber, weight and style change the material cost. A better pad costs a little more and helps the carpet wear longer.
- Floor condition
- Cracked slab, moisture or a squeaky subfloor needs fixing before new carpet goes in. You will know about it before any added work starts.
- Stairs and extras
- Stairs take more time per foot than rooms. Moving heavy furniture and hauling away old carpet also factor in. For full stair makeovers, see our stair flooring page.
Carpet Installation Questions
- Do I need a permit to replace carpet in Stafford?
- In most homes, no. Swapping old carpet for new is usually treated as a finish job. If we find damage that needs subfloor or structural repair, or the work changes a stair, a permit may come into play. We tell you plainly if your job needs one and we take care of it.
- How long does carpet installation take?
- A few bedrooms usually take one day. A whole floor with stairs can run into a second day. You can walk on it as soon as we finish.
- Can you put new carpet over the old carpet?
- No. Laying carpet over carpet makes it impossible to stretch right, and it will ripple fast. The old carpet and pad always come out first.
- Is carpet okay on a concrete slab?
- Yes, as long as the slab is dry and flat. We check for moisture and rough spots before the pad goes down. If a room has ongoing moisture, we will tell you carpet is the wrong floor there and suggest luxury vinyl plank or tile.
- Do I have to move my own furniture?
- We can move most furniture as part of the job and it is listed in your quote. Please clear out small items, breakables and anything stored on closet floors before we arrive.
